Yeah, this is great—thanks for all the info, apps, and your fantastic explanations. It’s wonderful to see open source making a strong comeback.

It’s nostalgic for me, all the way back to before Windows 3.1. Great! It’s kind of like the old saying: once you learn how to ride a bike, you never forget. Well, in my case, not only did I not forget how to ride, but I also forgot the bike, haha.

Thanks to you and others, I’m hoping to get back on that ride and contribute as much as I can. I’m definitely no Wizkid when it comes to programs, just revisiting the past. Keep it going. I’ll be jumping in and out now and then to reflect, if nothing else. Thank you again.

That is not correct.

Nextcloud diverged quite a lot from the same base code in recent years.

Owncloud focussed more on a B2B approach which you can see in their fully rewritten backend in Go.

Unfortunately, Owncloud was recently bought by Kiteworks, which is another confirmation that they want to focus on making the most money out of their customers.
https://owncloud.com/news/owncloud-becomes-part-of-kiteworks/

In the long run, owncloud for sure will change their licensing and in a few years will be dying a slow death.

Kiteworks won’t put so much money/effort into developing it even further.

They just want to milk the cow as much as possible.

Just a note: OwnCloud and NextCloud are more or less the same thing (with the latter being a more advanced fork of the former).

Also, Microsoft VS Code is not open source. VS Codium is an open-source project (just as Google Chrome is the proprietary version of Chromium).
